The Square and Compasses sits at the centre of the shield, the most recognisable symbol of Freemasonry, with the square representing morality, honesty, and fair dealing, and the compass representing the boundary of one's passions and desires kept within due bounds. Placed at the absolute centre is the letter "G", carrying dual meaning in Masonic tradition as both Geometry, the root science of masonry and architecture, and God, referred to in the craft as the Grand Architect of the Universe.
The dark, mottled green background stone flecked with red is bloodstone, also known as heliotrope, traditionally favoured in Edwardian and Victorian eras for masculine jewellery, signet seals, and watch fobs. The piece is enclosed in an ornate, shield-shaped gold casing with an integrated hanging loop at the top, a design typically intended to suspend from a pocket watch chain or fob chain rather than worn as a standalone necklace pendant.
