Dating back to the 1920s, this Deja Vu Gilded Silver Opal and Diamond Pendant is a beautiful example of Art Deco design, when gilded silver was frequently used as an elegant, more affordable alternative to platinum for showcasing coloured gemstones against sparkling diamonds. At its centre sits a milky, opalescent cabochon opal, its surface shifting through soft flashes of blue, green and gold as it catches the light — the kind of gentle, ever-changing play of colour that has made opal one of the most captivating gemstones for over a century.
The opal is claw set within a delicate teardrop-shaped surround of rose cut diamonds, a cutting style popular in the period for the way its domed, faceted crown catches light with a warm, candlelit sparkle rather than the sharper brilliance of modern cuts. A single rose cut diamond sits at the top of the pendant near the bail, echoing the halo below and adding a final touch of sparkle to the piece's silhouette.
