From our Deja Vu Collection, this exceptional antique German paper knife embodies the lyrical elegance of the Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau, movement. Crafted in solid .800 silver around the turn of the twentieth century, its slender, sculptural silhouette is exquisitely engraved with sinuous foliage, stylised buds and entwined lines—each detail reflecting the era’s reverence for nature, artistry and graceful movement.
The piece is marked FREYTAG, the retailer’s stamp, alongside the German .800 silver standard, and is likely the work of the esteemed silversmiths Bruckmann & Söhne. At 21.5cm in length, it possesses a pleasing sense of substance, balanced by the delicacy and precision of its ornamentation.
At the terminal, an elaborate engraved monogram offers an intimate trace of its original owner, lending the piece a singular sense of provenance and romance.
