Ring Size GuideHow to Measure Your Ring Size at Home
Getting an accurate ring size at home just takes a few minutes — and a bit of good timing.
1. Measure at the end of the day. Like sizing shoes, your fingers are at their largest later in the day, so measuring then gives the most accurate result.
2. Warm up cold hands first. Cold fingers shrink slightly, which can throw your measurement off. Let your hands return to room temperature before you measure.
3. No ring sizer on hand? Wrap a strip of paper or a piece of string snugly around the base of your finger. Mark the point where the ends meet, then measure that length in millimetres — this is your finger's circumference. Match it against the Circum (mm) column in the chart below to find your size.
4. Using ring gauges? Start with a size that slides on easily, then try progressively smaller sizes until you reach one that won't go past your knuckle. Your correct size is usually about half to one size larger than that.
A Note on Ring Width
The width of a ring affects how it fits. A wider band sits more snugly against the finger than a narrow one, so if you're ordering a ring that's noticeably wider than a standard sizer, you may need to go up half a size. A narrower ring may need to go down slightly.
This is one of the main reasons we recommend a professional, in-store fitting for your final purchase — our team fits you for the actual ring you're ordering, not just a generic sizer, so there are no surprises when it arrives.
Why We Measure to the Leading Edge
At Walker & Hall, we measure ring sizes to the leading edge of the band (the edge of the ring closest to the base of the finger) — industry standard for a precise, consistent fit.
If you're choosing a Comfort Curve or domed-profile ring, it may feel slightly different on the finger compared to a flat band in the same labelled size. That's because the centre of a curved band makes contact with the finger first. If you're torn between two sizes on a wider or curved style, our team can help you land on the better fit in store.

Order the larger size. A ring that's slightly loose can be resized down more easily — and often more affordably — than one that's too tight.

Yes. Fingers can shrink in the cold and swell in heat or humidity, which is why we recommend measuring at room temperature, later in the day.

It's a reliable estimate for everyday wear, but for fine jewellery or engagement rings we'd always recommend a professional in-store fitting to account for the ring's specific width and profile.

NZ, Australian and UK ring sizes use the same alphabetical scale (e.g. size N). US sizing uses numbers instead. Use the conversion chart below to move between the two.

Rings can be resized or custom made in any ring size, please note a charge may apply. The timeframe for resizing and custom made rings is 6-8 weeks depending on the ring style. Complimentary ring sizing is available on rings from our 1899 Collection.
Vault rings are available by Special Order and can be ordered in any ring size.Last Chance rings are unable to be resized or reordered.

Karen Walker rings are available in a range of sizes from a ‘J’ to a ‘Q’.
Karen Walker rings are generally stocked in a range of sizes from J to Q although other sizes can be ordered. There may be an additional charge for custom sizes. Please allow 1-2 weeks for custom sizes and 4-6 weeks for cocktail rings.
